The Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Odusile, has described the emergence of Mr Adeleye Ajayi as Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council as divine.
Odusile made the declaration during a courtesy visit to his office in Abeokuta, Ogun State, by the Executive Members of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos State Council led by Adeleye Ajayi on Tuesday.
” What God has destined will surely come to pass. Your non-emergence as Chairman NUJ Lagos State Council in 2017 was not destined by God but your emergence now was destined by God”
“When I lost election two years ago, people thought it was over but God had a better plan for me by making me the Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Ogun State,” he said.
The commissioner tasked the Lagos Council Chairman to be fair to all, and not to expect all members of the council to appreciate his commitment to uplifting the union, adding that the job is a ” Thankless Job”.
He further urged Ajayi to identify his key projects and make them his priority, as Lagos NUJ was a peculiar council.
The former National President of NUJ advised the hierarchy of Lagos State Council to complete its Guest House situated in the Somolu area of Lagos State, in order to generate more revenue.
He went memory lane to describe how active the building used to be when it was called the NUJ Social Centre:; a place where socialites in Somolu used to converge to unwind many years ago.
Odusile said the idea was to have such an edifice in different locations of Lagos metropolis in order to generate more revenue for NUJ Lagos Council and to project the image of the Council positively” he added.
Ajayi congratulated the commissioner on his appointment, saying it was a joy shared by all journalists in Lagos State.
He apologised for not paying the commissioner a courtesy visit before now due to demanding tasks of the Council.
“We want to say congratulations to you on your appointment as a Commissioner and we apologise that this is coming a bit late.
“I can assure you that all Journalists in Lagos State Council will be happy that we are here.
“God will raise you higher than your present position, ” Ajayi added.
Ajayi presented to the commissioner the challenge of de-flooding which remained a threat to subscribers of the Abaren Mowe Ofada land .
According to him, the Ogun State Government is in a better position to assist the union look into the issue raised through the office of the Governor of Ogun State, Mr Dapo Abiodun.
The commissioner pledged his support and vowed to look into the issue raised by taking it to the appropriate quarters which is the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development..
