Premier Feed Mills Company Limited, a subsidiary of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc., through its leading animal feed brands, Topfeeds, recently organised one – day seminar for poultry and fish farmers in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The brand is Nigeria as well as Sub-Sahara Africa’s largest producer of aqua feeds and the most preferred by farmers.
The event held at the Farm Settlement, Ajegunle, Mile 6, Ajebo Road, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital with resources drawn among top management team of the company.
It was a parade of both poultry and fish farmers who commended the company for finding it worthy of organising the seminar.
According to them, the seminar exposed them to new techniques of farming which will lead to improved agricultural productivity.
These included essential rearing management procedures for poultry as well as sustaining the right thermal environment, during brooding.The importance of feeds, feeding and water management as well as critical factors in birds laying were also discussed.
Aside body weight and the inflexion which the facilitator said was crucial in egg production, he also added that uniformity was also important.
While stressing that the age of a bird was not enough for it to begin laying, the Regional Sales Manager of the brand, in Lagos and Ogun, Temitayo Isaac Otubanjo, also acquainted participants with other factors that could aid or impede such a process.
“Age of a bird is not enough to determine when it would begin laying, there are other critical factors that would aid or impede this”, he declared.
The brand’s Technology Deployment Manager, Mr. Rilwan Oketade, who exposed participants to the nitty gritty of fish farming, also acquainted them with methods and procedures of rearing fishes.
According to him, the quantity and quality of seeds being stocked as well as the size of a pond, the type of feed, water management and other critical factors often determine the success or failure of the venture.
The TDM explained what a fish farmer stands to gain from using any of its aqua brands, which he described as undisputed Nigeria’s number one.
