Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has alleged that the All Progressives Congress, APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and one of his predecessors, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, masterminded what he described as the party’s fraudulent governorship primaries that produced an oil mogul, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
He also linked the national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomole as another cohort, who ensured that Prince Abiodun remains 2019 governorship candidate of APC through fraudulent means.
Two governorship primaries were said to have been conducted in Ogun State during the last nationwide APC primaries during which two governorship candidates emerged.
One of the winners of the crises – ridden primaries was Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, from the Yewa/Awori, Ogun West Senatorial district who is believed to be the favorite of the incumbent governor, Ibikunle Amosun and Abiodun from Ijebu/Remo – Ogun East, emerged from the Aremo Olusegun Osoba’s camp. as the APC standard bearer for 2019 governorship election in the state.
Amosun, made the allegation shortly after the inauguration of Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu as the new chief justice of the state saying that the silence of the duo on the crises translates their involvement in what he described as electoral fraud of the highest order.
“The President (President Muhammadu Buhari) already knows there was no election in Ogun state. He knows that they just went to Lagos, write all results, and what they did is fraud. If the National Working Committee or the National Chairman said there was any election in Ogun State, it was all fraud. That is what I said”.
He added: “Mr President already knows, there was no election in Ogun State, other than the one (that of his caucus) we held. The issue of Chief Soba and Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) and Co, what we said was that there was an indefinite silence from their end and silence means consent. You can record me and publish out in your newspapers.
“We have not heard one word from any of them. Was there any election in Ogun State? Yes or No? They should come out and those that are hiding behind one finger, they cannot come out? People at this level should be courageous enough to take position, to come out, to come and tell us whether there was election.
“On Governorship, they (Osoba’s caucus) said they did it or not. The one that we had, there was live telecast, people even witnessed it and how come they are changing that again. They removed Leke Adewolu, Commissioner for Special Duties who now vies for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency in the Federal Houses of Representatives and Mikail Kazeem, the incumbent House of Representatives member, representing Abeokuta North/Odeda/Obafemi-Owode Federal Constituency. All of those ones are nothing but fraud”, the governor stated.
Meanwhile, members of the Association of Local Government Councillors in Ogun State, have clamoured for the declaration of Akinlade as the gubernatorial candidate of APC in the state. Councillors from the 349 wards, who staged a peaceful protest at the premises of the Governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, claimed that the politician won the October 2 direct primaries organised by the party.
Members who spoke during the protest, Babajide Opatola (Remo North East LCDA), Oyedele Olugboyega (Ifo) and Tunde Makinde (Iju Atan/Ilogbo LCDA), said it amounted to daylight robbery for their mandate to be given to Prince Dapo Abiodun.
They said being in the grassroots afforded them the opportunity of witnessing the exercise first-hand, calling on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC to ensure that justice is done.
Addressing the protesters, Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Derin Adebiyi, appreciating them for the peaceful conduct of the protest and the support for the party.
Adebiyi assured that the mandate given to Akinlade is intact, saying there was no other primaries other than the one held on October 2.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, while also addressing the protesters, described them as the true representatives of their wards and those who should know what transpired in their areas during the primaries.
In another development, a group including Ogun Progressive Students, Ogun Youth Assembly as well as Coalition of Ogun Traders have urged Governor Amosun to abide by the decision of the National working Committee (NWC of APC and support Abiodun as APC’s governorship in the state.
During a peaceful protest, the groups lamented that Amosun is desperate in dragging the hard earned integrity of Ogun State into the mud, just as it passed vote of confidence on Oshiomole.
Convener, Movement for Secured Nigeria, Abdul Kabiru Ayoola vowed that the groups would stand against any attempt to nullify the candidacy of Abiodun and have him replaced with Akinlade, Governor Amosun’s preferred candidate.
