The Senate has unanimously approved the bill seeking for the establishment of University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta.
The bill, which was presented for the third reading was unanimously passed without dissenting voices.
It will be recalled that a public hearing on the bill was made last March.
With the development, the bill had successfully passed its major hurdle as it awaits a concurrence by the House of Representatives which is a mere formality.
The establishment of the university was the vision of the Medical Director, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu who had been vigorous and relentless in the actualization of the objective.
A 170 hectares of land was donated by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administratipn as the permanent site for the proposed university.
The sponsor of the bill Senator Amosun had repeatedly optimistic about the passage of the bill and eventual establishment of the university by the Federal government.
