The rich-cultural heritage of the Ayetoro people, headquarters of Ayetoro North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, was on display at the weekend, as the Yewa people celebrated the 2018 Ayetoro-Yewa Day amid pomp.
The annual festival of tradition and culture, attracted sons and daughters within and outside the state including the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly among other illustrious sons and daughters of the Alaye town.
There were dancing and drumming amid jubilations by the people, who sang in their dialect to the delights of their friends, groups and relatives, some of who were dressed in special attire.
In his keynote address, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, reassured that all on-going projects across the state will be completed before the expiration of the tenure of office of the current administration.
He also solicited the support of all and sundry towards successful completion of all the laudable programmes and projects of his administration.
According to him, the success of any democratic government required that all hands must be on deck for the promotion of peace and unity for the advancement of the society through successful implementations of people oriented policies and programmes in all sectors the State’s economy.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Tolu Odebiyi, the governor called on the people to freely exercise their franchise, stressing the need to shun politics of bitterness and acts that could truncate the existing peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the state.
He remarked that the state was known for the promotion of peace and tranquillity irrespective of political ideologies and inclination, enjoining the people of the state to sustain the feat.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon.Suraju Ishola Adekunbi, who is a son of the soil, underscored the importance of the annual celebration, saying it was aimed at fostering unity and even development of Ayetoro, Yewaland and the state at large irrespective of political inclinations.
Appreciating the people for their support since the inception of the current administration, Adekunbi, also assured that the yearly festival of tradition and culture would continually serve an avenue to chart the developmental plans for Ayetoro land with a view to turning around the fortunes and potentials to attract more investment opportunities to the town.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Central Ayetoro Yewa Day Organizing Committee (CAYDOC), Elder Kunle Amosun, stated that the celebration was another landmark in the annals of Ayetoro-Yewa history meant to project the rich cultural heritage and mobilize support for the developmental efforts of government at various levels.
He lauded Governor Amosun for raising the profile of Ayetoro through visible developmental projects which had brought tremendous development to the land.
Amosun, who ecommended Speaker Adekunbi for his commitment and support to the success of the rebuilding mission of the present administration, appealed to the governor for the speedy completion of all on-going projects, particularly the Lafenwa-Olorunda-Ayetoro, Ayetoro-Igan Okoto, Ayetoro-Saala Orile roads and other intra-city roads.
