OGUN TO ISSUE BUILDING APPROVALS IN 7 DAYS – COMMISSIONER

The Ogun State Government has reorganised its planning permit process in such a way that landlords will now get their building approvals within seven days.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, (MPP&UD), Olatunji Odunlami, a town planner,  disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta.
In a statement by Tosin Koletowo and Luke Adebesin, Press Officers, MPP&UD, the commissioner noted that many residents felt that the process of obtaining planning permit takes a long time and expensive.
“This makes them to erect their buildings haphazardly, and without necessary professional supervision.  This practice violates the State Planning law and Regulations.”
According to him, the process of obtaining planning permit had been made easy in such a way  that any person intending to build in the state can obtain building permit in 7 days, “once all required documents are submitted at once”.

While stressing the importance  of obtaining planning permit and building clearance before  commencement of any construction works, he disclosed that the present administration was determined to make the state well organised, habitable and prevent poorly  built houses and building collapse.
Odunlami, who appealed to residents to obey town planning and building regulations,   also charged other stakeholders to cooperate with the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government in its desire to achieve a safe and good environment.
This he said could be done  by alerting the town planning office nearest to them when they see any construction or dangerous building anywhere in the state.
The commissioner disclosed that Homeowner Charter applicants, who could not  receive their building plan approvals during the last administration would be contacted  in the nearest future to collect them.
