Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged the newly coronated Agura of Gbagura, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Oba Saburee Babajide Bakre, Jamolu II to promote unity among other traditional rulers in Egbaland.
Obasanjo, spoke during the coronation of Oba Bakre as the 9th Agura of Gbagura, the homestead of the late business mogul, Bashorun MKO Abiola and the acclaimed winner of the historic June 12, 1003 Presidential election.
The monarch was last May officially installed as well as received staff of office from the immediate past governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The new Agura succeeded Oba Halidu Laloko, who joined his ancestors in July 2018.
“I congratulate you for the success of today; you will live long on the throne and your reign will be the beginning of new things in Gbaguraland.
“Kabiyesi, you have a lot of work to do in Gbagura and Abeokuta as a whole. Our traditional rulers are not united enough and you did not have baggage because as you are coming, your hands are pure, you must ensure that everything about you is pure.
“Don’t let anybody tell you that they don’t do it this way, if you want to ensure that your reign brings peace and development to Gbagura, you may have to act out of the box”, Obasanjo counseled the new Ogun monarch.
Ogun State Governor , Prince Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, an engineer, while congratulating the new Agura , charged him to work with other monarchs within the Egba nation.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Bakre, assured that he will be committed to the development of Gbagurland as well as promised to work with the Alake, the paramount ruler of Egbaland as well as the Osile and Olowu respectively.
