MAN, 52, ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTING TO DEFRAUD OGUN CP

Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected fraudster, Tayo Ogunmola, 52, for allegedly attempting to swindle the state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama.

A statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the arrest followed a phone call by the fraudster. to the CP.

Oyeyemi , said Ogunmola made a phone call to Makama, pretending to be an herbalist who mistakenly sent a recharge card pin numbers to his telephone number, pleading for the pin to be sent back to him.

The PPRO further said the CP who had been familiar with such antic by fraudsters played along with the suspect, just as he sent men of the state Intelligence Response Team to track and apprehend him.

Unknown that he was under surveillance, the suspect later presented himself to the CP as a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police.

The suspect was said to have told him that he was ready to assist him only if he could part with certain amount of money.

Oyeyemi added that the suspect, was after arrest traced to his hideout at Araromi Phase 2, Ilogbo area of Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

“On interrogation, he confessed to being a fraudster who had defrauded many unsuspecting members of the public of their money running into several millions of naira, out of which he built the house he is living in presently.

“Meanwhile, CP Makama has ordered the monitoring team to properly investigate the suspect with the view of arresting his other accomplices and arraign them before the court of competent jurisdiction”. Oyeyemi concluded.
