The Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo has alluded to the fact that  the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State was ripe to become a degree awarding institution.
This is even as he commended management of the institution for re-branding the face of the institution and making it conducive for learning.
While  imploring the students not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs, the eminent monarch also enjoined the management to eradicate cultism and other vices in the institution.

Alake linked indiscriminate alcohol consumption and exposure to cannabis substances among others on the rampaging mental health challenges among Nigerian youths.
The Egba monarch  made the appeal when the management  team of the polytechnic led by its rector, Dr. Samson Adeola Odedina paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Ake, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
During the visit, Odedina appreciated Alake as an institution and the people of Egbaland for accommodating MAPOLY for over 40 years, saying Abeokuta had been a very good host to the institution.
He disclosed that the polytechnic is negotiating with some notable universities in the country to upgrade it into degree awarding institution.
“Kabiyesi, we came here today to pay homage officially as the Rector of MAPOLY. Although, I have enjoyed the support of the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland since my reign as  vice chancellor of a federal university in Nigeria.
“Today, I am happy with my appointment as the Rector of the polytechnic because it’s like home coming for me. We equally came here to appreciate the Kabiyesi for his support at all times for MAPOLY and the good people of Egbaland have been so wonderful by accommodating our over 27,000 students.
“We want the Egba traditional council to continue its support for MAPOLY because we have capacity to admit 33,000 students and there is committee in place to ensure that the polytechnic becomes a degree awarding institution in the next six months,” he concluded.
