ABIODUN ADVOCATES REGIONAL SECURITY

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has canvassed  regional security in the country, adding that its importance could not be over emphasised.The governor made this known during  the  South West Geo-Political  Security Summit  held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. Oyo State.He  told the gathering that  Ogun as a gateway state has its own peculiar challenges as it borders Lagos and other international boundaries like the Republic of Benin.This he reasoned had added to the challenges faced as well as escape routes for criminals going out of Lagos hence the need for states to collaborate in tackling the issue.Reresented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun described aerial surveillance as an important security tool for safety.He noted that in Ogun state communication challenges within the police would soon  be a thing of the past as sophisticated communication gadgets  for the police to relate with one another in emergency cases are on the way.”In our state, we have challenges of communication within the police, where the police have to communicate with each other with an open line, this is one of the initiatives of our administration so as to develop a  very sophisticated communication system. “To be able to do this, our government recently launched security trust fund which will help to mobilise funds which can then be used to provide the right security equipment such as vehicles and other apparatus needed for securing lives and properties of the citizens” Abiodun stated.While thanking the IGP for the Community Policing Initiative, he urged all to be their brother’s keeper as the initiative is like going back to the Nigeria of old, where people felt saved in their communities because they look out for each other.In his submission, the  Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland,  Oba Aremu Gbadebo explained the need to  employ  local intelligence gathering as a means of gathering information for security purposes.He urged  stakeholders to also collaborate with traditional rulers in ensuring that South West states were free of criminals.
