Journalism and Communication  scholars will converge on  Abeokuta, Ogun State capital  for two days as the 6th annual conference of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, (ACSPN) begins tomorrow.
The conference with the theme: “National Interest, Freedom of Exlression amd Governance in Africa” will feature a special panel discussion on jouirnalism, media sustainability and the consolodation of democracy 160 years after Iwe Irohin.
A vernacular newreel, Iwe Irohin fun Awon Egba ati Agbagbe Re” remains the first newspaper in Nigeria and was  established in the gateway capital in 1859 by the missionary led by Henry Townsend.
Veteran journalist, columnist and former Managing Director  Nigerian Tribune and Daily Times, Chief Tola Adeniyi is expected to chair the event.
A statement by ACSPN  General Secretary,  Nosa Owens-Ibie,  said a key note address will be delivered by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, while Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun will be the chief host.
Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who is also the chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum along with his counterparts from Lagos and Oyo, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Seyi Makinde  will be special guests of honour.
The Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, will be the royal father of the day, while former director general, Voice of Nigeria, Chief Taiwo Alimi, Chairman, Troyka Holdings, Chief Biodun Sobanjo, Chairman, Editorial Board, The Guardian Newspapers, Martins Oloja and the Baaroyin of Egbaland, Chief Lai Labode will be guests of honour.
Other highlights of the ceremony among others will include paper presentations by scholars on issues of national interest, new media, developmemt communication theory, gender related issues  journalism among several others.
