Two in police net for diverting company’s N4.5 million goods

Men of Ogun state Police Command have arrested a 32 -year old driver, with Parkway Investment, a subsidiary of C_WAY Foods and Beverages Company Ota ,Mutiu Olaonipekun, for allegedly diverting company’s goods worth of N4.5 million
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement said the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Onipanu Divisional headquarters by the company. Oyeyemi added that the driver, who was given a truck loaded with the company’s good on the 15th of March 2021 to deliver somewhere in Isolo Lagos, absconded with the truck as well as the goods.
Upon the report, the PPRO said the divisional police officer, Onipanu division, Bamidele Job, detailed his detectives to unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the driver and the goods.
“After weeks of painstaking investigation, the empty truck was recovered at Ewupe area of Ota. Further investigation revealed that the goods was trans-loaded into another vehicle before taken to the receiver.
Oyeyemi stated that the receiver of the stolen goods, Kayode Afolabi, was there and then traced and subsequently arrested .
“On interrogation, Mutiu Olaonipekun confessed that, he took the goods to Kayode Afolabi who bought it from him at the rate of N2,572,000
He also disclosed further that he used part of the money to buy a Volkswagen LT Bus worth N900,000 and used the remaining balance to play bet9ja.
“On his own part, Kayode Afolabi confessed receiving the stolen goods and that the goods had been re-sold to one Alhaji Adamu Kano who is now at large.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Edward Awolowo Ajogun has directed that the suspects be thoroughly investigated and charged to court as soon as possible.
