Barely few hours after loyalisfs of the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun defected to the Allied Peoples Movement, (APM), the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has appointed a multi-talented professional Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele as the running mate to Prince Dapo Abiodun.
Salako-Oyedele, 52, Awori, from Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of the state is said to be the daughter of the late Professor Lateef A. Salako, former chairman, Ogun State Scholarship Board and Chairman Ogun State University Teaching Hospital Board of Management.
Her late father also served as Special Adviser to the late Minister of Health, Prof. Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, as well as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research for seven years.
For three years, he was also the Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Vaccine Research Laboratories, Yaba.
The current Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Glenwood Property Development Company Limited, she is also said to have proven cognate experience of over 30 years in Consulting, Contracting and Real Estate Sectors.
The APC running mate is also, said to be former General Manager (Business Development)/Acting Managing Director, GRENADINES HOMES LIMITED and also served as Graduate Engineer/ Project Manager at OVE ARUP & PARTNERS, LONDON, UK.
She holds a Masters degree in Public Health Engineering from the Imperial College of Science & Technology London, UK, a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Lagos.
The APC flagbearer, Prince Dapo Abiodun who spoke after the election of his running name said: “I am convinced that Mrs Salako-Oyedele is suitable for this position, given her proven integrity, professional track records, leadership skills and capabilities. And I look forward to working with her to deliver good governance to the good people of our dear state”
The Director General of Dapo Abiodun Campaign Organisation, Prince Segun Adesegun, who also spoke, urged party members and well-meaning sons and daughters of Ogun State at home and abroad to rally round the candidates and give them the needed support.
The choice of Mrs Salako-Oyedele was made by the leaders, elders and stakeholders of the party after dispassionate deliberations, detailed screening of various qualified individuals that were hitherto put forward for the position, and a voting process by all stakeholders present at the meeting venue.
Meanwhile ahead of Saturday deadline for substitution of names , scores of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, loyal to Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, have defected perfected to APM.
The APM, which has cassava as its main logo will also be formally launched anytime soon in the state.
Those, who have defected from APC to APM include serving prominent cabinet members of Governor Amosun, as well as the consensus governorship candidate of the APC, Hon Abdul Kabir Adekunle Akinlade.
The aggrieved APC members were said to be protesting the position of the National Working Committee of the party on the last primaries in the state which announced Prince Dapo Abiodun as the candidate of the APC.
Also, four legislators of the ruling APC in the state formally announced their defection from the APC to APM during plenary at the Oke Mosan House of Assembly complex yesterday.
The defectors are Majority Leader, Yinka Mafe, representing Sagamu 1 constituency, the Chief whip, Idowu Olowofuja representing Abeokuta South II, Tunde Sanusi, Obafemi Owode constituency and Ganiu Oyedeji representing Ifo 2 constituency.
Inspite of the planned defection, Amosun has always told those who cared that he would mobilise votes for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari, in the state.
He also insisted that his preferred candidate, Hon Akinlade, would contest and win the governorship poll in the state under any political party.
