Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 2021 Diabetics Day in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
Special Assistant on Media to Obasanjo, Kehinde Akinyemi in a statement said hundreds of visitors and residents around the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) visited the marque open ground section of the complex to check their diabetes status among other medical checks.
The exercise, organised by the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation also witnessed appreciable presence of policemen/women, journalists who also took time out to have their diabetic status, blood sugar level, and BP checked.
Wife of the statesman, Mrs Bola Obasanjo and Chairman of Ogun Free Trade Zone (OGUN GUADONG), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka were among dignitaries that graced the ceremony and checked their medical status.
The celebration by the foundation also witnessed a novelty football match between the ex-Green/Super Eagles players, including Segun Odegbami, Mutiu Adepoju, Godwin Opara, Felixstowe Owolabi, Ike Sorunmu,
Mrs Obasanjo appreciated her husband for supporting the global celebration of the diabetic disease, as she urged all to follow all necessary guidelines just like her husband to reduce the scourge among patients.
Obasanjo who was unavoidably absent due to his assignment as special representative appointed by the African Union to the Horn of Africa, has been a diabetic patient in the last 40 years.
“But, my husband has been following the dos and donts to beat crisis arising from having the disease religiously. If we can follow the guidelines, including taking the drugs and exercise regularly and as at when due, we can reduce if not eliminate it,” she said.
