The founder of the First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Otunba Subomi Balogun, has watched his hands off the rumours that he was scheming his son, Ladi, the Managing Director of the his bank as the next Awujale of Ijebuland.Balogun, who is also the head of Fusengbuwa Ruling House and the Olori Omo’oba of Ijebuland, described the rumours as untrue in a statement by one of his media aide in Ijebu Ode, Oluwaseun Oduneye.While declaring that “my son, Ladi, is too busy at FCMB at present, for him to be planning to succeed Awujale”. the illustrious Ijebu son added that it is a taboo in Yorubaland to be scheming for a monarch’s succession when he is still hale and hearty, “I am most disappointed in the sponsors of the story on the social media and those that are fueling the rumour that I am plotting my son who is handling the affairs of my business, to be the next Awujale of Ijebuland, while the the current one is still very much alive. “We all know that Awujale and I are friends, both of us are still alive, if Awujale could make a pronouncement, does that mean that they should drag my name to sell their stories?”I happen to be the Olori Omo’oba, and providence has placed me in a situation in which everybody will expect me to be close to the Awujale and be supportive of whatever he is doing by way of our culture and tradition”, the octogenarian stated in the statement. Awujale had during the last Ojude Oba Festival warned that moneybag must not be allowed to hijack the installation of his successor when the time comes.. Balogun, expressed disappointment over the deliberate twist of Awujale’s statement and attempt to cause disharmony between him and the monarch. He also lamented that since the pronouncement by the Awujale, the social media have also been awash with stories that Ladi, was being positioned by him to become the next Awujale.
