‘’The matter is being handled by the police and my legal team’’.

A 16-year-old student in Ogun State has accused a serving commissioner in the state of sexually harassing her.

Miss Melojuekun Barakat Mayowa, Senior Secondary Student of Victory Model School College, Abigi, Waterside Local Government Area of the state made the accusation in a viral video.

In the video the girl narrated how last Tuesday he came across the Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Abiodun Abdu-Balogun on his way to register her National Identification Number (NIN), at Ibiade motorcycle park, but later sexually harassed her after luring her into his house.

‘’I was in a discussion with my friend, when he called me and said he knew me from somewhere, but I promptly told him that I did not know him. He later told me that I resembled someone and later asked where I was living and I told him.

‘’When I was about to leave the scene, he sent one Seun to me to collect my phone number. I told Seun that he should tell the honourable to go and collect my phone number from Mr. Lasisi Said, (a.k.a. Mayor)

Her words: ‘’On 31st December, 2020, again, Mr Lasisi, Mayor went to meet my grandparents that someone needs a computer operator. He now asked me if I could operate a computer, I said yes and he told me to change my clothes that we were going to meet someone who needs a computer operator. He now took me to Hon. Abudu-Balogun’s house in Ita Otu.

“On getting to Hon. Abudu Balogun’s house at Ita Otu they said I should sit in the car that I must not get down. Later, a lady, Mariam Eniola Oyenuga, from Ita Otu came and took me to a living room. Mr Austin now came inside and started a conversation with me that what did I not pick his call yesterday and I replied that I was not with my phone. He later took me to a room inside Hon. Abudu-Balogun’s house,”

‘’Immediately Hon. Abudu Balogun came in, Austin went out immediately. Immediately Austin went out, Hon. Abudu Balogun locked the down instantly and put the key inside his pocket. He later moved closer to me and asked my the name of my school and I told him, Victory Model College. He also asked how much I paid as school fee and I said N30,000 and he also asked who was paying the fee and I told him it is my dad’’

“When Abudu-Balogun came into the room, Mr Austin left immediately and Abudu-Balogun locked the door and put the key inside his pocket. He asked about my school and I said Victory Model College. He said how much is my school fee, I said N30,000. He asked who pays it and I said my daddy.

Mayowa quoted the commissioner as asking her if she did not want to start a business before going to school, I said I want to go to a higher institution. He said if I would need money now, how much would I need, I said any amount. He said I should state an amount, I said any amount.

“He (Hon Abudu-Balogun) now moved closer to me and pressed my breast. I moved away his hand. He touched my breasked and I said he should not touch my breast. He later asked me won’t I cooperate, and I replied by saying why will I cooperate. He now started pressing my breast, pressing my body and harassing me, something like that. I was struggling to free myself from him to gain freedom.

“He started reciting some incantations and wanted to place his hand on my head, I now moved away his hand and wanted to touch my head and I told him they do not use to touch my head. He wanted to force me into his bathroom, but I struggled with him and started shouting.

“Because people were around his compound and he did not want them to know what was happening, he left me. He gave me four N500 notes for transport which I rejected. He said if I didn’t collect the money, he would not let go of me, so I had to collect the four N500 notes and he later opened the door and told Mr Austin to take me to our house’’

The commissioner, while reacting to the allegation denied Mayowa’s allegation, describing it as a political blackmail.

Hon. Abiodun Abdu-Balogun’s statement read: “My attention has been drawn to a purported video circulating on social media of a girl alleging that I attempted to sexually harass her. Let it be noted that in my entire life and political career, I have assisted many youths to secure jobs, some are working with me in my different businesses.

“On this said day, the girl was brought to my house by one of my loyalists who is her uncle, to assist her get a job as a computer operator at the ICT centre I facilitated while I was serving as a member of House of Representatives years back which has been moribund, but I am about to rehabilitate in order to empower more youths in our local government’’.

He added: “I met her at my sitting room for few minutes where many of my loyalists were people that came to visit me for the New Year. I chatted with the lady for few minutes and as part of my usual gesture, I gave her some amount of money for her transportation. A day after, I was informed by some people that I have been alleged to have attempted to sexually harass the girl and I should invite the family for a meeting so as to settle the matter amicably. It was after my refusal to yield to their threats that they went ahead to make a teleguided video leading the lady on what to say to implicate me. This is purely a political blackmail by my adversaries. “Let me state emphatically that I never attempted to sexually harass anyone.

“I therefore plead with my fans and loyalists to be calm and not engage anyone on the said matter as it is been handled by the police and my legal team.” he stated.

Meanwhile the state police command has said that the matter is being investigated.

Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said the case is already being investigated by the Area commander, Ogbere assuring that the outcome would be made public.
