34 road mishaps recorded within 14 days in Ogun – TRACE

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), has disclosed that 34 road accidents were recorded within 14 days in the state. TRACE spokesman, Babatunde Akinbiyi, in a report stated that the road mishaps which occured between March 28 and April 11, this year involved five private cars and two private buses. According to him, 117 persons were also involved in various accidents during the last Easter celebrations. Others involved were three commercial buses, five commercial cars, 11 motorcycles, two medium trucks, one heavy truck and three other vehicles.
Akinbiyi said of the persons involved, 44 persons, 33 males and 11 females sustained various degrees of injuries. Although the TRACE’s report revealed that 69 persons were rescued unhurt due to the prompt response to emergency calls received by TRACE Corps, however, four men died during the fatal accidents
He attributed 44.73% of the crashes to excessive speed, 25.84% to dangerous driving, 8.80% as a result of bad tyres, 3.45% due to driving against traffic by drivers and 17.18% by other causes.”
Despite the death recorded during this year’s Easter period, Akinbiyi said the figure was reduced by 42.86% when compared with last year, while the number of persons injured was also reduced by 22.73%.
